Default Ion LE and VDPAU

I've just been looking at the specification of the Samsung N510 laptop I'm thinking of getting; it has ion le graphics rather than ion. Trawling the internet this seems to be a DirectX9 compatible chipset rather than DX10; I guess its a cost-saving issue for windows XP netbooks. Does this have any impact on VDPAU video playback or the 3D capabilities in linux generally? Is the LE supported in the Nvidia drivers, and if so at what version?

I've been using an Acer aspire revo at home as a media pc, and it's outstanding; it'd be nice to be able to download some of the HD video I've recorded in mythtv and play it back on my laptop - without VDPAU this would be impossible, so it's pivotal to my laptop purchasing decision

Cheers in advance

If ION Le is marketed as having PureVideo HD then I guess it should also have VDPAU.
My 2c. If it isn't, then probably not.

I checked a couple of information sources, and it appears the differences between ION and ION LE only apply to DirectX, and should not affect VDPAU.

If you do end up using ION LE with VDPAU, It'd be great if you could follow up with your results here, so Google etc. can find them!

Thanks.

FYI, an NVIDIA employee has tested VDPAU on an HP 311 Mini, which apparently has ION LE, and reported VDPAU to work correctly.

Reviving a VERY old thread, apologies; I recently got a compaq 311c and with the standard 1Gb RAM it decodes 1080i H.264 (BBC HD) using VDPAU under Ubuntu 9.10. Excellent little laptop!

Could you also test MPEG-4 ASP (DivX/Xvid)?

ION LE is VDPAU feature set B, and hence doesn't support MPEG-4 Part 2/DivX.
