I gotta tell ya, its really quiet. Even gaming for a bit I don't hear it over my radiator fans. I don't think I had my HD5870 on air for very long. I don't remember how loud is was. Hoping tonight its water cooled.

I just received a pair of Galaxy GTX 480 (i.e. two of them).
I used them sporadically for 2-3 days without any issue.
Then, as a developer, I had to run some 3D test application in a loop to try to reproduce some very sporadic driver problem. The simple 3D app ran for many consecutive hours (maybe 10 or 20 hours) and when I came back, the computer was frozen: the card was dead. The card would still work for 2D, but would immediately hang the computer as soon as it starts running any 3D application. The other card still works fine.

So I guess nVidia did not resolve all its reliability issues with this card.
That may be why their Quadro equivalent are still not available (not even announced!).

Did anyone have any reliability issues with their new GTX 480?

Ozo.

Ouch, that blows mate.

I have had no issues with my 2 Zotac cards for what it's worth.

Wondering what settings you used for the Dark Tower benchmark? I only get 34.xx with everything maxed and 32xCSAA at 1920x1200.

1680x1050 4x/16x everything high.

Thats what I love about 1680. I could probably run 32x now, but I wanted to compare with my HD5870. Do you really need that much AA though? Even 4x at 1680 looks fine to me.

No, I only use 32x CSAA for the benchmarks. 4x AA when I game.

Here's what has worked well for me with drivers.

If I'm switching from ATi to nVidia. Uninstall ATi drivers using the
driver that's currently installed. So if 10.3 was on my system I'd run it
and select uninstall all ATi software. Boot into safe mode. Run driver
cleaner, clear my prefetch folder then shut down. Remove the ATi card
then install the nVidia card. Start in safe mode and let the standard VGA
driver install. Restart in safe mode and install the nVidia driver. Boot
normally.

For upgrading nVidia drivers. Remove the driver in safe mode. Restart in
safe mode and let the standard VGA driver install. Restart in safe mode.
Install the new nVidia driver. Boot normally.

The new version supports 470's. It's version 1.6.0 beta 5 and was released about a week ago.

I dont think you even have to do that much.

I uninstalled ATI profiles, then the drivers. Did not reboot. Ran driver cleaner for ATI display and cleaned, that asked me to reboot, at which point I shutdown and changed GPUs. Installed Nvidia drivers and was good to go.

Picked up an EVGA GTX480 SC from Newegg yesterday, going to spend some quality time with it over the weekend curiosity got the best of me .

My biggest concern is the heat this beast puts out, and power consumption although the latter is not as big a concern as the heat. I should be OK with the Corsair 800D.

I have been following closely a lot of owner threads on various forums and focusing on the heat issue and it seems as thought itís not as bad as some of the professional reviews we will see maybe a function of the latest bios update.

I will do some benching on the 5870 in the next few days on various games, BFBC2, Dirt 2, and others some synthetic benches like Vantage record the data and over the weekend install the 480.
If I see increased performance, good stability and the heat is not a concern then I will most likely keep it.

Iíll follow up soon.
