Need help with Upgrade

Hello, first post here.
Anyways, I am planning to upgrade my PC in a few weeks. I was planning to upgrade my Graphics card to a GTX 270 but certain complications have made me ask some questions.
First of all, these are my current system specs:

PC Model: Gateway FX4710-03H
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz
6 GB RAM
Radeon 4850 HD
Windows 7 64-Bit
400 W power supply

I have two main problems when upgrading. First, I am not sure if my processor will work well with the GTX 270. Second, I will need to purchase a 550 W Power Supply (which is Okay money wise). This makes me wonder if a new 550 W Power Supply would work well with my other PC parts. Maybe I will wait until X-Mas and buy myself a new PC altogether.
Anyways, can anyone please help me on making a decision?
