Right now ambient temps are warmer as its been high 70s the last few days. Room temp is probably 70 - 72F. Idle temp is 35-ish C. Max load temp has been 47c. Do these cards have a 2D speed they drop to?

My HD5870 would idle about 28c but it would drop to 2d speeds, the load on that was about 36c, but remember there was direct die contact with the GPU block and we all know it outputs a lot less heat.

I'm using a PA120.3 with 3 (med) Yate loons on a fan controller running @ lowest setting (5-7v), MCW-60 with G80 plate for the GPU. My CPU is also in the loop with HT on right now, using Dtek Fuzion v1 with 775 mounting. The pump is a Swiftech MCP655, 1/2" inner, 3/4" outter Clearflex tubing. I needed to order the G80 plate for the MCW-60 so it cost me $12 shipped for that.

Much better than 56 idle and 100c load.... Fermi has been tamed.

Now I've gotta figure out how high this can OC. I just jumped it to 800/1600/1900 and gamed with it some last night. Also, let Kombuster run for a bit too.

So are you guys noticing the card dropping to a 2D speed? The GTX 4xxs are supposed to, mine doesn't seem to be though. Its a Gigabyte GTX 480 using 197.55 driver.

Nm, it finally dropped lol. 405 then 51.

I got my 470 up to 875 before I started having some serious issues but it just requires too much voltage for me to feel safe. I've seen 480's get close to 1000 so with water cooling you should be able to get that thing really going.

Temp in my office today are 77F. Swapped the Ceramique for AS5 which always gives me a few less degrees.

That's a weird case it opens on the right instead of left. Wouldn't be able to use that since my computer sits to the left of my desk on the floor.

You've swapped out the thermal paste twice?! Seems like a hell of a lot of work for a brand new card... If you're going to put that much effort/time into why don't you just water cool it or replace the heatsink with something better?

Did you even look at the pictures in my post?

The other day I pulled the stock cooler off to water cool it but I needed the G80 plate for the MCW60, had to order one. So at that point I put ceramique on the stock cooler. Last night the bracket came in so I used AS5 with my water block since I always get better temps. If you go back to the post on the last page I have pics of the card with the water block installed.

I was just stating that I had changed to AS5 as well as my ambient temps. It was warm today and hot in my office which is why my idle temp was like 38. Tonight its about 35 idle and when the GPU drops to 51mhz idle drops to about 32. My load temp is 47c max now on water.

here are the pics again -

Why not use Arctic Cooling MX-2 or MX-3? Beats both AS5 and Ceramique.

A guy on the EVGA forums is running a couple of GTX 480s @ 940 on the core.

Very nice setup, slaWter!

Will you consider going water in the future? I'm thinking about it right now, but I'm not sure if a single single loop with one quad radiator like the Black Ice GTX480 is enough to cool the two cards + a 980X CPU.

Be careful guys, my bottom 470 died last night.

My gut told me to hold onto two of my 5870s when I RMAed the third for a refund. Glad I did.
