Default It would be Nice if they could get the GTX 480 on a smaller Die.

It would be nice if they could make a GTX 480 or GTX 470 useing a smaller die,to cut down on power and heat. The GTX 480 is a fast card but overclocking it really brings out the power. But it uses the power ,it seems alot more then nvidia had stated.I want one ,but it seems that it really needs to be water cooled ,since it runs so hot.I do miss some of the features that nvidia has to offer like Phys-X.But IMO I don't think it makes much sence for me to sell my HD 5870's running in crossfire to get them ,sine my HD5870's will run any game I throw at it.I imangine I will wait untill nvidia comes out with a update ,or something where it does'nt draw so much power and run so hot.I know it a hard card to keep cool with air,but looks like they could make a better cooler so it could run not so hot.I know it is supposed to be fine up to 105c ,but to me that is hot. That is 221 degrees Fahrenheit, hot enough to boil water. But it is a fast card ,I could just imangine what the 512 shader card could do.They are a lot easier to find then I thought they would be.And you still can get them at $499.

Man, you are so smart. You should go work for Nvidia, I don't know why they didn't think of that.

I was'nt trying to be a smart asss ,I was just trying to say if it was possiable it would have been nice if they were able to build it on a smaller die.I know they would if they could have.

Using afterburner fan profiles the card stays quite cool while gaming. Rarely see temps above 85 degrees @ 800/1600/2000 1.075v

Perhaps they could do some work to move the design to 28nm:

http://www.tsmc.com/english/d_newsev.../TSMC_28nm.pdf

It could enable Fermi to reach the clock speeds at the voltages it was intended to reach, hopefully with the full 512 shader processors. That would result in a dramatic decrease in power consumption with a nice increase in performance.

Are you guys needing to give extra voltage for 800Mhz core?

28nm out this year. If TSMC doesn't mess it up like 40nm maybe we'll see a 512 shader 28nm fermi early next year. Would be awesome.

I feel like the current 470/480 are beta and the real thing will be next year. The 470 works great though.

I do, but I have a 470.

Same here. I can do 850 on stock voltage.

We will be lucky to see any die shrinks this year. With all the issues that both TSMC and Global Foundries have had. They have both canceled the 32nm process chips and GF have moved onto the 28nm, whilst have heard rumors that TSMC will try to go straight to 22nm.I doubt we will see any chips until well into 2011.

Whats your default voltage? Mine in 3D mode is 986mV (962mV in 2D mode). Since cards can have some variation in default voltage, I think I might be right when I assume that they can affect the overclockablity of the cards.
