Just wish it would lose that rubber/metallic/gloss coating that every id game is imbued with

Every IDTech4 game, yes. There's no more of that in the shots shown than there is in any other current heavily shader reliant game engine.

JCs megatexture tech is kinda cool, but I think hes wasted waaay too much time on it and screwing around with tech in general. What hes ended up with there doesn't look any better than 2-3 year old games, it takes up 10 times the space and appearantly doesn't run any better than todays games that look better.

Synopsis: Stop wasting time and make a good game, not a good engine JC.

They need a good engine if they want to improve their licensing. I know Doom 3 sold well, but I think they screwed up bad with Tech 4. For Pete's sake, id/Raven/Splash had to yank out the network code for Quake 4 and Quake Wars to go from a handful of players to what every other game was doing 5 years ago. What were they thinking? Awful. :S

models look good, but there is no way to make an "amazing" looking game that will run on a console, unless there is scalability, and Carmack has already given the PC market the big finger by openly and blatently developing for xbox as the lead platform.

Looks fine to me, gives me this borderlands vibe though. I'm hoping its nothing like Borderlands.

I'm hoping it will be 3D Vision ready or at least work well with it.

That is pretty much impossible.
The game has already texture sizes ranging from 32kx32k to 128kx128k textures which have GI baked on.

Releasing the game with bigger textures on PC would mean that it would take even more space and that they would re-render them in higher resolution.
Rendering GI for the scene in resolution around 128000x128000 image is not fast.

The lighting is pretty much perfect in the environments and pretty much looks stable without that horrible crawling of light and shadows.

Considering that there is no console game which has more texture data I do wonder this comment.
Actually I'm pretty sure that only game which games currently close in textures are flight simulators with texture packs.

New consoles are coming eventually, and iD have said they want this engine to last into next-gen, so it makes sense for it to have a high threshold which they should allow on PC right away.

Also, stop with the doom and gloom "PC gaming is dying" stuff.

the gun in the first shot accentuates the Borderlands look. other than that, it's a vague resemblance at best.
