dynamic twinview and metamodes

So I have a DFP TV that I use occasionally which I enable by turning on twinview when I want to watch a movie on it. When X starts only my main computer monitor is enabled and so the metamodes are automatically populated with the modes that the monitor supports according to the EDID data. So when I enable the TV through twinview all of the metamodes that I do want are erased. I wouldn't mind that they be erased so much except for when I disable the TV the metamodes aren't repopulated. It seems to me that when only one of the screens is enabled that the metamodes should be populated with all of the modelines that the monitor or TV supports. The metamodes are automatically populated when X starts and is quite desirable. Is there a way that I could get the metamodes to repopulate?
