Default GeForce GT 325M does not work with 195.36.24 driver

Hi folks

I've tried to install the latest (195.36.24) driver on my asus lap but it does not work. I disabled the nouveau driver loading, specified BusId option in xorg.conf file, but did not help. dmesg says: "NVRM: failed to copy vbios to system memory. NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x30:0xffffffff:868) rm_init_adapter(0) failed" See attached log files for more details.

Is there anything that can be done about this issue? I have followed all of the suggested fixes in the sticky threads, as well as several fixes found on Google. Nothing is fixing this. Same issue as OP. I previously attached my bugreport

Try this:

Rename xorg.conf. Disable KMS (kernel mode switching), blacklist nouveau. Restart, reinstall the driver and let it configure xorg.conf. Restart again.

The PCI id of the video card can be found with the "lspci" command if it is not auto configured correctly in xorg.conf.

BTW, did the previous drivers work?

KMS Enabled - Drivers Fail
KMS Disabled - Drivers Fail
Blacklisted nouveau - Drivers Fail
Custom kernel with all framebuffer drivers disabled - Drivers Fail
Use nvidia-driver configured xorg.conf - Drivers Fail
Speficify PCI Device - Drivers Fail

BTW, did the previous drivers work? -- No, this is the first driver version with support for the 325m

No matter what, the driver fails to load with "failed to copy vbios to system memory"

I suspect it has something to do with the way optimus is setup in hardware. I _AM_NOT_ requesting optimus support in linux. I am hoping to be able to use my NVIDIA card under linux though. As soon as it can actually load the video bios.

Now that sucks.

Do you use 64-bit Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)? Can you try the driver with a 32-bit live-cd (or USB)? Maybe an Ubuntu 9.10 to avoid the kms/nouveau startup issues.

D/l the 32-bit driver, copy it to the HDD in a known folder.
Burn the CD/write it to USB with usb-creator, start the computer from it, press ctrl-f1 to go to tty1, stop the gdm service and install the driver from the HDD then start gdm again.

Just to make sure it is not a 64-bit related issue.

Using arch linux or gentoo. Both 32 and 64bit.
