Default 495's release next quarter........

So when these come out next quater where does it leave all of us? I guess it explains why the 470 and 480's were not more expensive! From what I have read they will have a PPU(Physx Prcessing Unit) right on the card specificly made to handle the physx aspect of rendering. I sware just when you think you have near top of the line........

Eh, means I'll be able to pick up a 480 cheaper than what they are now :P

It leaves us with an even hotter POS that no one is going to want...

They may as well just ship the card with waterblocks only because they won't be able to make a cooler good enough to dissipate all that heat.

But that's what reviewers said about this gen - I'm not seeing that at all.
Not sure I want to trust reviewers any more after this. I love this card...470 btw.

I wouldn't say the card is slow, but it just isn't efficient. IMO I'd compare it to a prescott processor. It works well enough, but it uses too much power and makes much heat. Then this card is taking two of those and trying to shove it into an already tight envelope. NVidia needs their next gen to be like the C2D and make a real jump in progress.

Yeah, can't argue that. I was mainly addressing the heat issues reviewers reported. And yes - I'd love to see that "Pentium to C2" leap.

Well as long as you've got enough airflow you can get those temps down. I think the biggest problem is that most people disagree with their choice of fan settings. I don't consider 90C to be a safe operating temperature for the GPU.

Nor I. I generally see mid 70s, according to afterburner. Fan is set to gradually ramp up with the temp to 70% at 80c. Then again, I have a 470. 480s may be a bit warmer...

Well the TDP is another 75W or 33% increase in power. It looks like it's only say a 30 - 40W increase in actual load though. So maybe 15% increase in power.

Here is a chart that MikeC made himself with playing games.

If the temps were under 80C that's okay, but 95C is not.

The temperature of this card is really going to depend on how the gtx 460 ends up. Either way I'm not expecting mindblowing performance, just a modest improvement over what the gtx 295 serves up along with dx11 support.

Who knows, maybe with a new die refresh, power consumption will be down and cooling will be better.
