Thats my thought aswell. My college professor said that everything we are using right now at home is 5 yrs old. The industry controls the flow to keep consumers interested in new product, if they released the newest things available we wouldn't need to buy as often.

I've often heard this but am not sure how true it is.

For example- Intel's netburst architecture vs AMD's K8... if the netburst was 5 years old upon release, and the K8 was 5 years old upon release... why did it take Intel so long to release a competitive product? And why is it taking AMD so long to play catch up?

I think 5 years is a stretch, imo.

Heat. with a stock cooler you can't run any of these cpus at 4.0 Ghz. On water we can. heat output is the limitation for clock speed right now.

They don't require them, but the faster (ie: more processing) the cpu is, the less of a bottleneck they are to the more powerful cards. To give you an example, my old E6600 Cpu allowed my 8800GTX to operate at full capability (or close enough to it) however, it was a severe setback to the GTX 280. If I overclocked the E6600 to 3.6Ghz from the 2.6Ghz it normally operates at, it allowed the GTX 280 to have a higher output.

I then replaced the E6600 with a Q9550 and overclocked it, which reduced the bottleneck even further.

From the looks of it, with overclocking it seems to be better than having 280's in SLI. It's definately tempting for me to get 2 of em.

Here is an SLI review for the 465 it shows the 260 but not in sli.
