Try the workaround in post #58. It's a pain in the ass but atleast it's better than the system crashing constantly.

Which Linux Distro / Version and nVidia Driver are you using for that? 32 or 64 bit?

Hi,
Is there any update on the issue? Is there a planned fix or will/has there be/been some time spent on this problem? I today lost some piece of work due to the xserver randomly restarting while working on battery (and closing all running applications). Note, for me its not a solution to change to 32bit as I need all 8Gb (for running virtual machines) of ram I have paid for. I kind of find it very said that the "flagship" and high-end mobile graphic cards are ignored. |

Had 0 replies from nvidia on the issue.
Also going 32bit for me didn't help, I get nvrm errors there instead. The only workaround is using an ancient driver (173), which is dog slow. |

Used gdb from other machine as described in:
http://www.x.org/wiki/Development/Do...erverDebugging This is the displayed error: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x00007f000040213c in _nv001626X () from /usr/lib4/xorg/modules/updates//drivers/nvidia_drv.so As far as I know, that does not provide much info... except you have the source code or the debug info of nvidia_drv.so and know which function is the _nv001626X. I had also noticed that playing with the stealth button do sometimes help. For me, it looks like I have to push it and restart and keep doing that until the lap stop crashing. But I'm still looking for a pattern. I could work without Xorg crashing for more than a month or two (bad memory in brain), until I accidentally started my comp from battery. That's when the crashing started again. Hope this help to fix this annoying bug. Take care. P.S.: Sorry for bad english. Last edited by Molus; 04-27-10 at 07:18 PM. |

Today I started the lap with a monitor connected to it and the restarting began.
Played a while with the stealth button and now seems stable. I'm using the newest version of the driver (195.36.24). |

Been running 256.29 now for 4-5 hours without crashes. That was possible on previous drivers on rare occasions as well though, so I'm not convinced it's fixed yet.
But I strongly suspect it was related to performance profiles, as for me clicking my "stealth mode" button would fix it (and I suspect reset the performance profile of the card). And I no longer need to do that. Either way, well worth a try. |
