?? My last post disappeared! Screenie of my desktop. I'll put it back up tonight.

On the mbp - my company just had a nice contest and give away. 13 employees got brand spankin new mb pros - I didn't get one.

Yeah but the updates are actual improvements, not just security. For example, you'll get a new version of GNOME/KDE(or whatever DE you have) that fixes bugs and fixes from Canonical. Distros do come with more software and as you install more supported software, you'll get more updates that fix issues.

Lucky . . . Hopefully before the end of this year or next year, I'll get a MBP.

So my Windows partition shared my movies, music and pics from another hard drive. When I switched over to Ubuntu, I forgot about setting up those shares. Apparently Ubuntu only lets you share what's on the Ubuntu partition/hard drive, not items on other hard drives that you have to mount. Ya know?

Anyone have a clue how I can permanently make that mount work with Samba shares?

Never used it myself but this may help. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba

Did you try turning sharing on in nautilus?

Sharing is done and ready to go, but Ubuntu won't share things off of another hard drive, I don't think it has correct mounting permissions or something. So I have one Ubuntu hard drive and then ANOTHER hard drive with my movies and such on it. Hope this explains some of it.

So I finally got some time to mess around with my desktop at home via Ubuntu (work has been nuts). I'm just amazed at how freakin fast this is. I've almost got my desktop customized where I want it but I love it. I may not go back to Windows unless I just wanna game.

Lol. We've had this discussion before. Linux performance is still not as good as Windows performance on newer games like COD, BFBC2, etc.

Yes, it won't be because it's missing DirectX stuff which they have to blindly try and implement as I read. It will get better over time but WINE will always be behind native DirectX and they've only just got started on DirectX10 support.

The main things is, we can play Windows games which is better than nothing.
