Is there a simpler way to query the GPU temperature, without the immense overhead of running nvidia-settings ?

I just ltrace/strace'd it, and no wonder it causes glitching. HUGE startup costs.

Surely there's a simpler ioctl() or library call to get the GPU temperature?
I can program, just need to know where to get the temperature from.

Thanks

Ah... "nvidia-smi -q -g 0" works much better.

According to strace, this does a simple bare-bones query to the driver -- exactly what's needed here.

No jerkiness using nvidia-smi. Problem solved!

The jerkiness is back again, with the 256.53 driver.
But I don't need the temperature query any more, so I'm disabling it.

Problem evaded!
