Can't wait until people get bored with this game. Doesn't matter ATi or nVidia, someone is always crying about it.

Potential or not, it's already a faster card than the 5870 and that includes in BFBC2.

Maybe you just think the 5870 ran BFBC2 smoother?

After all, you said that you didn't have stuttering problems in MW2 with the 5870 and then later (when you found out it wasn't a problem with the 480) turned around and said that everyone who has the game has stuttering. You obviously didn't remember the stutter in MW2 on your 5870, even though it was there, maybe you just don't remember how BFBC2 ran on that card either?

Bottom line, if BFBC2 isn't running as smooth as it possibly can with your 480, it's something with your system, because it doesn't run any smoother on anything else.

BF BC2 was smoother on the HD5870, check the thread, there are others that came from a HD5870 that agree. I played a ton of COD MW2 on my HD5870 and it was alot smoother than the GTX 480. The GTX 480 has always been faster (fraps confirmed that), that wasn't the problem, its the perceived smoothness of how the game was actually playing.

However, with the 120Hz LCD now COD MW2 is smooth on the GTX 480. I'm not longer getting 90 FPS (cap) and stuck at 60hz. I think the HD5870 has something in the drivers that removed a lot of the tearing that the GTX 480 without vsync which was a big reason it was bothering me. With the 120Hz LCD now thats no longer an issue, I've had terrible headaches the last few years while using 60Hz LCDs and there was more tearing with the GTX 480. I think that was the major problem I was having with it.

I don't have to anymore!! Last week I picked up a Viewsonic vm2265wm 120hz LCD!!! no more vsync for me guys I don't like vsync for two reasons... limiting my framerate and the input lag there is with vsync enabled. Seriously, if you don't want tearing anymore the 120Hz monitors are awesome.

In COD MW2 there HD5870 would provide constant 88/89 fps the MP cap in that game but it was nice and smooth with or without vsync. The GTX 480 was also giving me the same FPS but it wasn't smooth without vsync enabled. With the new monitor I can disable vsync with the GTX 480 and its really smooth. Its almost like there some additionaly buffering happening with the ATI card that makes the HD5870 feel smoother than the nvidia cards without vsync enabled.

My stutter with BF BC2 was also solved with the 120hz LCD. Again for some reason without vsync the GTX 480 just felt choppy without vsync enabled. But the input lag was killing me to have it on. I'm now running without vsync using the GTX 480 @ DX11, 1680x1050 32xCSAA, 16AF, everything on highest, hbao off and I was getting 100 - 150 FPS last night online. The GTX 480 was always faster than the HD5870 when I'd benchmark it but for some reason the perception of it wasn't. If you've ever used any of the GX2 cards it was very similar to those. They benchmarked great but often felt choppy without vsync enabled.

My theory on this now was that its just the way nvidias drivers work when vsync is disabled. The new monitor has solved this problem for me though and everything feels smooth without having to limit my fps with vsync and deal with the input lag.

The 120Hz monitor might be the reason why Battlefield Bad Company is super smooth for me.

After using one I'd tend to agree. It eliminated all the tearing and I can keep vsync off. Plus you dont have to deal with triple buffering to eliminate the 60 to 30 fps drops.

Which one do you have?

here you have it boys and girls, coming from a person that owns both

every monitor has input lag, some have more some have less. my IPS panel has one of the lowest recorded input lags.

yea, maybe he's got a 120hz monitor already. Maybe 60hz doesn't bother him. I had both too. You still didn't. Do you believe everything you read on the internetz?

I don't have a 120Hz monitor, and I have no problem with the game.

seriously, WTF are you talking about. I used 120mhz monitors/tvs before, and nothing special about them. I care about image quality, and don't have problems with your imaginary smoothness.

I don't have the problem anymore with 120hz monitor. Can't you read??? lmao nothing special about them? How about no tearing with vsync off? My God you are clueless. Why would you spend $500 on a GPU to lock it at 60 fps??? Now thats idiotic.

Because it's not about maximum frames, it's about minimum? Just about everyone I know uses Vysnc and only turns it off for benchmarking. The only game I don't use Vsync on is BFBC2 and the only reason why is because I don't get the tearing in that game that you get in most.

You went and bought a new 120hz monitor to get rid of a problem you could have gotten rid of with a setting in your control panel, and you call someone who uses that setting idiotic?
