Just wanted to post this, because I've made up my mind, and I'm going to wait for the refresh of GTX400's. There seems to be minuscule amounts of advantage over a 5870, and I'm not buying an ATI card, because I really don't want to.
Anyone else in my boat?

I was, but then decided to jump on a 470. due to user feedback. Very glad I did.
I do seem to remember someone (can't remember who) saying a refresh might be available before my step up runs out. I hope so, but given the performance and IQ on the 470, I have no regrets either way. |

There is a rumor that Nvidia will soon be launching the original 512 shader Fermi.A refresh doesnt usually add more than 15% performance anyways so I see no reason to wait.

next step for Fermi is the smaller derivatives (GF104, GF108, etc). a real refresh MIGHT come this year but who really knows. everything I've read says this refresh should be "Fermi done right" though.

Exactly, remember this thread, because I think I got an inkling that this next card may be the Neo of grfx cards. Time will tell, but I can wait for some new hotness!

I'm still with my 8800GT, and I'm not going to buy anything with TDP exceeding 120W, thus the whole GTX2xx and GTX4xx series are not for me.
And mind that 8800GT is a perfect fit for absolutely most modern games. I really don't understand why people buy monsters just to play Metro 2033 or Crysis @ 1920x1080 or higher. ![]() |

Try playing dirt 2 in DX11 on your 8800gt, see how far you get.
