So I just got a new 5870 and I'm having a blast with Oblivion again. I'd like to amp it up and install some of the really great visual plugins. Any recommendations?
Obviously Qarl's texture pack. But I can't figure out if I'm installing it correctly. I think it's installed, but it doesn't look that different. Is there any way to test it? |

Zelda... you read my mind.
I bought Oblivion(for the 3rd time!) last weekend during the Steam deal. I've been playing it like a crazy person. This is a good site to start for mods http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Must_Have_Mods Let me know if you find something worth getting that's NOT on this site. |

Now for my Oblivion problem: I bought the Steam copy last week (8 bucks and I don't have to mess with separately installing the game, the patches, the DLCs and the expansion), and I installed a bunch of new mods; found a lot of cool stuff after not having played for almost two years. Anyway, anytime a "blur" type shader is active, such as when you get hit, or when the assassins in the opening dungeon die, Oblivion pauses for several seconds. And I have no idea what's causing the problem...

It's been a while but I remember you have to invalidate a bunch of archives. I used that mod loading tool Oblivion Mod Manager(OMM) and turn on some option in an ini file I think.
Check here http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki...ivion_Mods_FAQ and here http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/home.html Edit:Forgot to hit submit I've been beaten to it.

Also, I definately recommend getting Oblivion Script Extender and Oblivion Graphics Extender. That way you can run some of the more advanced mods...
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30054 http://obse.silverlock.org/ Also, grab these.... Landscape LOD mod CapNkills Non-tiling texture mod Natural Environments DarNified UI *much improved UI DarkUI (darkens the UI) Atomosperic Loading Screens for DarkUI Supreme Magicka Rens Beauty Pack Arcane University Addon Training Cave Most other stuff is about Armor/Weapons/Items, gameplay, quests, etc. Thats up to your personal taste. |

It needs to be set to "BSA Redirection" and "Autoupdate on Exit"

Tesnexus would be my recommendation for finding good mods. I had the same thought just a day or two ago, but after looking at all the mods and thinking of all the work of getting them to work together I gave up... Might try and sort it all out this weekend.

I took about 3 hours of extracting/copy/pasting and have nearly 200 individual mods installed. My Oblivion folder is about 15GB. Quote:

It really is a great game with all the mods. I love the mod community. The more tools you give the community to improve your own game the more it will sell over and over again.

I've only ever used UI and HUD mods for Oblivion, basically... getting rid of those quest arrows and making the HUD smaller and partially opaque does more for the game than any texture mod could.
Maybe one day I will reinstall and use some texture packs and that overhaul mod, just to see what it's like.
