Default Best place to purchase another Vista Key.

I'm in the process of setting up another PC and was wondering if anyone knows where the best place is to purchase a key is? Looking for Vista32 Ultimate upgrade.

Why Vista instead of Win7?

I would not buy just the key from anywhere; 99.9% of keys sold online are msdn keys and they will not last. The best choice is purchasing an oem copy from somewhere like newegg or if you feel lucky a pre-owned boxed version from a fellow nvnews member.

Microsoft Store online are sell Windows 7 keys as download but now they no longer sell Windows Vista. The best place to buy Windows Vista is on ebay but I recommend you to buy Windows 7 as both bids at the same price start from $1. You probably will grab Windows Vista or 7 Ultimate upgrade DVD with key for as little as $30 to $50.

Yeah I've already got win7 and an OEM copy of vista I use. I was hoping I could just buy a key and use my DVD to install. It's an older 939 system and the Asus board does not support Win7. I traded my copy of vista for their Win7 after I found it had issues with the system. Now I kind of want to keep my copy of vista installed and buy them a new key. Then I'm moving mine over to another machine and installing Win7 on here. Sounds like so far just buying another OEM upgrade is the best option.

Hmmm I remember ran Windows 7 beta 1 build 7000 on previous Socket 939 ASUS A8N-E motherboard with NO ISSUES.

What issues you had with Windows 7? I am sure that issues will be very simply resolved without need to buy yet another copy of Vista Ultimate OEM.

It's an A8n32-SLi deluxe. I was unable to get the onboard ethernet 1&2 working and I was unable to get the onboard sound working. The main issue was ethernet. I thought if I could at least get on line I could run a few updates and see if things came to life. If you want to give me a hand I'll try again and give exact details. I would really appreciate it.

Edit: Or should I just give them my vista ultimate and just move to win7? It's home premium and really I have no idea about what’s missing from home over higher versions, what’s better and what’s worse. I do know I'm not really in the mood to reinstall a butt load of games and programs but if Win7 is better maybe I should just forget about vista and give it to them?

Try download and install Nvidia ethernet drivers for Vista 32bit, it will be compatible with Window 7 32bit too:

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/nforc..._15.23_uk.html
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/nforc..._15.01_uk.html

Download and install Realtek ALC850 AC'97 Audio Windows 7 32/64bit driver:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

If either still not working then go to Device Manager to locate the devices, double click on it, go to details tab and give me the hardware IDs details. That will help me find the correct drivers that matched the hardware ID.

Is your ASUS A8N SLi Deluxe have the latest BIOS 1805?

Here are features compare for all Windows 7 editions:

Strange- my parents are running that exact board with an FX-60 and dual G80 8800GTSs- works like a champ. Much snappier and more responsive than it was under Vista as well. This is also the 64-bit version of 7 Pro.

Are you "upgrading" or doing a fresh install (deleting old partition, creating new partition, formatting drive)?

It was a fresh install. I just looked and I'm running a much older bios 1303. I'm going to go ahead and flash that. Though now that I'm finally looking into Win7 it sounds faster and the only thing I see missing from Home that I might want would be the XP Mode. Is this like XP compatibility mode on shortcuts or is it like an entire XP shell for programs? I might just give them vista and go Win7 home. What do you think?

If you can put 7 on there I'd do it.

As for XP mode- does any of their software not work on Vista? If so XP Mode would be beneficial though it's only available with Win 7 Pro and higher.

As to the BIOS- I always keep BIOS and drivers up-to-date so maybe that was the ticket. Not sure- just worked out of the box on their rig.

XP Mode, I don't understand it 100% but from what I gather it runs a VM with XP Pro to offer greater compatibility with older software titles that do not otherwise work under Vista or 7.

I ran 7 on that same board - No issues.

Another vote for 7 if you can.
