Yeah, same here but on my wife's old IBM Thinkpad R51. It runs great.

Heh, kind of off topic, but after seeing this my wife now thinks I should buy a new laptop and give this one to her.

There is no higher endorsement in the wife_speak language.

How big is this file? I got ubuntu on a laptop that I may reformat for OpenSUSE....

Well, I cannot get openSUSE on to her laptop at the moment, she just has Xubuntu for now. My USB key doesn't want to boot any distro and her dvd drive doesn't work.

I prefer to put openSUSE on because *buntus' shipped Intel drivers are pretty bad.

About 700Mb for the Live CD ISO. I recommend the DVD though which is an over 4Gb ISO.

It's well worth it so far. A newer laptop would handle KDE just fine I think, and it does take a bit of getting used to for someone who's used some 'buntu derivative for years now, but everything I could possibly use is on the DVD.

May sound a bit trite, but openSUSE feels much more like a full featured distro that could cater to anyone right out of the box than Ubuntu does.

Speaking of which, yast does an excellent job of dealing with dependencies so far, but the interface isn't quite as intuitive as synaptic.

And I just might get that new laptop too

If you want to install Google Chrome, you have to add the extra contribute repos. Just install Chromium which will add the repo and then you can go get Chrome from Google. http://www.google.co.uk/chrome/eula.html

Chromum contrib 11.3 repos 1-Click install

Just a note. I recommend installing Google Chrome, since it's more stable.

Add the xswat ppa for latest Intel driver which work quite good.

Still broken. It hard locks Xorg while trying to play a video on my wife's laptop. I can still get to the TTY though.
