I use GNU/Linux Ubuntu x64 10.04 desktop,Quadro FX380.
I'm sure I have remove nvidia-glx package and install build-essential ,pkg-config and xserver-xorg-dev . I sure sudo sh NV[Tab] -k $(uname -r) to install it.It said completed and successfully. But when I start gdm ,it said X can't load to load nvidia.ko ((EE) failed to load nvidia.ko) I try to remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and add it into /etc/modprobe/black.list. But it is useless. How can I fix it. P.S I have install DKMS. My English is not very well, please forgive me any unimplite |

The file is /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf
You have to add blacklist nouveau to the end. And make ABSOLUTELY sure you dont have any nvidia packages installed. Also, disable KMS. Create a /etc/modprobe.d/nouveau.conf and put in it options nouveau modeset=0 just to be sure. Prior to installation remove your xorg.conf (or rename it). Let the installer configure it. |

Secondly, dkms manages the nvidia kernel module for you. Thirdly, this is your Ubuntu Nvidia Driver that has the proprietary driver: http://ubuntu.osuosl.org/ubuntu/pool...ntu2_amd64.deb Here is the control file contents: Quote:
nvidia-current. Extracting the Tree includes the following: Quote:

First,I don't like deb package,it don't no support 3d .
Sencond, I had tried to blacklist nouveau in /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf. Third, I said DKMS ,not KMS(What's it? MS support seriver?),DMKS is dirrerent from it. I ask in a Chinese forum , someone answer me ,I translate now. Add nomodeset in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset" of /etc/default/grub sudo update-grub, sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop sudo service gdm stop sudo sh filename.run sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start #Disalbed another Nvidia mods sudo gedit /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common Edit "DISABLED_MODULES=" to "DISABLED_MODULES="nv nvidia_new" I dont 't have try. I'm out. But I rember I dont't have /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common this file. |
