GTX 460 vs 465 vs 470?

Which is the right card for me. I currently have a 5850 from sapphire that I can overclock to around 825 core / 1175 memory (defaults are 725 core / 1000 memory).

I can play pretty much all games fine except maybe GTA IV + Exp (with vsync frames can dip to 30s) and Metro 2033 (around 35-60 fps depending on scene with vsync on, tessellation on but adv. DOF off and no AA).

Resolution and settings that I play with is 1680*1050, 4xAA and 16xAF forced through the control panel.

Just wanted to understand what are the differences between the three cards and which is the right one for me. I only have a 600W PSU that I do not want to change right now. Overall system is a Q6600 running at 3 GHz w/ 4 GB ram and Win 7 Pro.

Reason to shift to nVidia is that ATi does not have AA in SC2 and I don't expect them to do anything about it anytime soon. I also want to try out physX which I cannot do with ATi. I am not exactly looking for an upgrade but rather something that will give me the performance and added features from nVidia. I am tired of ATi drivers in general and past 3 months have been crap (10.5-10.7 with no issues resolved but rather new issues created).

Noise is an issue with me so I want a low noise system. Heat is also an issue since I don't want temps in 90C+ territory.

I'd go with the 460 1GB. It's faster than the 465 (and cheaper), runs cooler, and cheaper. The 470 is the fastest of the bunch, but I don't think it's worth the $100 premium over the 460 1GB.

.... Why would you go to anything except for a 470 if you're coming from a 5850. You'll take a pretty fair performance hit in most games with a step down from a 5850 to a 46x

yeah you'd get a bit less performance with a 460, but temps would be a bit better. and 470 is much hotter. 465 can immediately be disregarded.

just wait for the next refresh and stick with the 5850 for the next ~3 months or so

If noise and heat are issues, and you want to use features like AA and Physx, none of those cards are a good upgrade from what you already have. The 460 is too slow and the 470 is hotter than what you have.

I'm sure ATI will fix the Starcraft AA issue soon with as much of an issue it seems to be in the community.

Go with the GTX 470 you will be more happy with it and they overclock easy to 700 most will do 800 .The fan does'nt really get loud until you past 70%.

Seems like everyone says its GTX 470 or nothing? I am going to look into that and see if I can squeeze in a GTX 470.

Besides AA in SC2 seems like the ground is sharper with nVidia too.

As far as nVidia cards go, I'd say try the 470 and manually OC it, or if you want more kick than that, GTX 460 1Gb SLi.

How can it not be a decent upgrade when ATI doesn't even have the certain features he is asking for? He isn't in same crazy res either that a 460 or 470 couldn't handle. My lightweight rig plays everything I throw at it in 1920 x 1080. Yea, I can't slap tons of AA on a lot of titles, but it doesn't bother me in the least. The ones I can, I do.

Of course it probably would be better to have a dedicated card for physx though, instead of making one card handle it. My choice would be the 1 gig 460 as I see heat and power draw would be his main concern.

Don't count on ATI to fix any AA issues. Hope they do, but I would never count on it.

Because a 5850 is already faster and using Physx on a 460 would make it significantly slower? Not to mention the fact that he wants AA in Starcraft, which is nearly unplayable with a 460. He also mentioned noise and heat are issues, so the 470 would be a bad choice as well. Also, Ati has already fixed the AA issue in Starcraft.

I dunno, I just don't see the point in sidegrades, especially when the extra features you are looking to add end up making your new card slower than the other. If a 460 was as fast as a 5850 while using those extra features I could see it, but to go slower just for Physx doesn't seem smart.
