useful information I suppose.... but really you're basically comparing 2 5870's to a couple of 460's... You're looking at half the cost if you were going to examine them in their single card variants

Two of those gTX 460 768mb in SLI does'nt make the $700 HD 5970 look good .I seen some of those GTX 460's clock over 900 and nearly all of them will do 4000mhz on the memory .It supposed to use the same memory speed as the GTX 470 ,but it hard to get them up to 4000mhz ,one of mine will do 3950,I wonder if they have more voltage going to the memory since both use .5ns GDDR5.It a shame you can't TRI SLI them GTX 460 ,then they would have won ever benchmark more then likely.Nvidia put it out against the HD 5830 but it would put up a good fight against the HD 5850.

Warhaead Crysis gameplay, SLI GTX460 1GB is much smoother than SLI GTX460 768MB. Frame rate of SLI GTX460 768MB will be dropped down a lot when turning or having the explosion since 768MB is not enough to play Crysis Warhead at resolution 1920*1080, Enthusiast DX10, AA = 4X.

The benchmark result of Stalker DX11 Call of Pripyat, the min frame rate of SLI GTX460 1GB is much higher than HD5970.

In terms of performance/price, SLI GTX460 1GB is much better than HD5970.

You know, you really misinterpreted my response if you believe that I was complaining.

I really don't think there's any value in comparing 2 sli'd cards when they're target market is tiers below the other card.

For example... you don't see any reviews pitting sli 460's directly against crossfire'd 5870's.... different tiers

UNLESS nvidia decides to build a dual-gpu fermi card out of these 460's.... in which case it's going to be pretty darn underpowered. A dual-gpu card really needs to be built out of 470 GF100 cores.... which probably won't happen since they're extremely ineffecient compared to 460 cores.

They had a hell of a winner with teh 460 but its primary competition is a 5830, a very weak card in comparison to the 5870 cores used in a 5970

Also keeping in mind that ATI's HD6000 series is due in september/october,which will be an entire lineup of cards and faster than the current HD5000 series across the board(remains to be seen how much faster of course),and only now has Nvidia come out with a really good GPU in the form of the GF104,in terms of power consumption and performance and even allow a dual GPU card,to fight cards released 8 to 10 months ago by ATI.


I hope i'm wrong,i really do,but i think Nvidia are going to have a really tough time competing for the next long while,as ATI has the option to make their chips larger and having a bigger transistor budget with this HD6000 series,as the Cypress chip is only 334mm^ in it's current form and they use alot less power than Fermi.


The high end version of fermi is already over 500mm^ at 40nm and is power hungry,so major changes to that can only happen when 28nm is ready from either TSMC or global foundries,and that won't happen till the end of next year,so i don't see a rosy picture at least for another year for Nvidia here.....ATI is giving them hell basically.

Clearly, improved SLI performance is a lot better than CrossFireX, so not surprisingly performance of GTX 460 1GB lost HD 5850 a lot but the performance of SLI GTX 460 1GB is the same as Radeon HD 5970.

And this has to do with what in accordance to these benchies? Wait until SI releases, then boast.

All I see is a $450.00 vid card setup pretty much equal to a (woops) $700.00 setup. Of course this is if you already own a sli capable board and a beefy enough psu.

P.s. Thought ATI couldn't do SS in dx10, as per The Call of Juarez bench. If so, the numbers would seem out of whack.

Still doesn't change the point that the HD5970 was released in november of last year,and here we are about 10 months later,and trying to impress with an SLI setup using recently released cards,against a 10 month old single card,and which is still the fastest single card on the market overall....Wait long enough,and you'll eventually get something faster for less money,even if in this case,it needs to be an SLI setup with 2 cards.


Nvidia used to release dual GPU cards about 5~6 months later after ATI released their dual GPU cards,in order to reclaim the overall peformance crown for a single card,so what happened this time,and why is it taking so damn long to beat that HD5970 card?


And yes,ATI's next series is about 2~3 months away,and Nvidia better pray that those cards don't add another 40~50% more performance over their current HD5000 lineup,otherwise i see Nvidia's pain lasting well into 2011,but that's just my opinion really.
