Default Nvidia Linux 71.86.14 and X Server 1.6.3

Hi,

I have an old nVidia graphics card - a GeForce2-Ti powered by Asus - and I'm trying to get it working on Slackware Linux 13.0-32bit.

The drivers are installed, but I get this error when X server starts:

Code:
(II) LoadModule: "nvidia"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (loader failed, 7)
(EE) No drivers available.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
What's wrong?

I attached the '/var/log/Xorg.0.log'

Thanks!

Bye

P.s.

I'm sorry for my really bad English.

can you read http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and generate a good report with the debug info as instructed after the issue appears ?

The 71.xx.xx drivers don't support Xorg server > 1.4.x.
You're going to have to try Nouveau or downgrade to an older Xorg server.

Sigh! ... this is a sad news/thing for me.

These drivers" improve compatibility with recent Linux kernels", but not with latest X server(s): this statement makes no sense to me.

The kernel and the X server are different software components.

Sure, ... but we're not talking about an Ethernet card or other hardware that works (also) without X Server.
