Can't believe I missed this thread. I just did this upgrade and it was well worth it, but I see you've gone a different route. Post your experiences!

I just got me an inno3d gtx460 1gb. Coming over from an HD4870, and on to SLI by the end of the year (if all goes according to plan).

I will post benchmarks here in a while, so we will know if it was worth it (at any rate, SLI is the target).

Biggest gains are PhysX and shader heavy benchmarks/games.

I just ordered the GeForce GTX 470 SuperClocked 1280MB, upgrading from my 2 MSI 8800GTs...I sure hope I see some real performance gains, but I'm afraid my CPU is going to be the bottleneck here. I just want better fps in SCII and Metro 2033. I hop it was worth it...

Now I am going to try to sell the 2 MSIs on Ebay.

For Starcraft 2 it's not going to do you much good with your processor. For Metro you might see some gains.

Ok, got my 460 today. It's evga's 1gb superclocked version. Scoring in vantage was just what I expected it to be.

Oddly enough, somehow I gained a couple hundred points in my cpu score, maybe the video card still has an impact on the cpu test?

How are your games performing, Jeff?

here my 3dmark vantage gpu scores running 730/1460/1850 atm with fan at 42%.
(normal evga 1GB gtx 460)

1280x1024
score: 6501 <- 8800GTX
score: 12295 <- GTX 460
score: 13135 <- GTX 460 @ 730/1460/1850
13318 <- GTX 460 @ 750/1500/1900

i would prefer to run at 750/1500/1900 but fan was starting to get a bit loud for my liking @ 45%+.

BFBC2, Crysis Warhead all running smooth on max settings. atleast 40+ fps min. compared to my previous 8800GTX

So far everything works great, but I didn't have a whole lot that was a bad performer on the 8800 either. GTA is smoother, I am still working on ideal settings for it but it looks like I will still be running medium textures on it just so I can keep the draw distance past %50. NFS shift was like butter and I was able to have high AF with some AA. I do think I am noticing the stutter issues but it isn't at any type of set frequency, it is so random and dosn't happen so often that I can't rule out the stutter just being disc access.

So I was mainly just tweaking games to enable AA/AF. I also played with folding abit to checkout the bad ass speeds the thing can process units at vs cpu. Saddly xilisofts video converter which supports CUDA seems to use only 8-18% of the gpu (and all of the cpu still).

One nice thing I am finding is I don't have to manually set fan speeds. It idles at 38c and the fan wont let the card get hotter then about 75c, and I havn't had the card crash yet. My 8800 would occasionally lockup when it got hot so I manually set its fan speed to max. A good thing to, the fan on this thing really becomes audible past 55, and 100 is earpiercing.

Crysis isnt installed so I'll have to get around to doing that.

Wow. That is all I have to say about my new GTX 465 Twin Frozr card. It came preflashed with the Twin Froz 470 BIOS and appears as a full fledged GTX 470 under windows. Beside the obvious speed improvements (My jaw hit the floor being able to play Crysis with everything at 4xAA @1920x1200) I really like how much cooler it runs then my 8800GTX. My old card used to idle at about @75 C, whereas my new card idles at @35. After playing Crisis for the evening, checking the Afterburner log I saw that my max temps hit 66 degrees, with my fan maxing out at 71%. Nice! Can't wait to try out some other games in the morn.

Color me impressed!

Okay... I'm really having a hard time deciding what card to get. I created a thread some time back about this and just can't seem to make up my mind.

Since this thread has a lot of people posting in it whom owned an 8800GTX and went to a GTX460... this might be a great place for good feedback.

My current specs:

Core i7 920 (stock)
Intel DX58SO mobo
4GB DDR3 1600
2x eVGA 8800GTX

In short, I'm moving out into the sticks, in a trailer. It's hot where I'm moving to, and electricity is much more expensive than in the city. I need a single card that will offer comparable performance to my dual 8800GTXs while running cooler and consuming far less power.

I keep bouncing from the 5770, GTX460 1GB, to the 5850 and can't make up my mind. The ultimate test would be for me to run some benchmarks with these cards then compare them to what the reviewers and ya'll are getting- but sadly I don't have time to do that.

So trying to piece together whatever information I can. Want to get a card and keep it- don't want to buy one just to be dissappointed and have to return it or sell it to then buy another card.

Ya'll think a GTX460 would be sufficient? I game at 1920 x 1200.

Thanks ya'll.
