How do I install Gnome from KDE? What are the base packages that I need in order to start the Gnome desktop?

Used to be called task gnome. Once you get a core package it should grab all the deps.

Try this command
Code:
sudo zypper in gnome-session nautilus gnome-panel gnome-desktop gnome-applets gnome-control-center gnome-packagekit gnome-main-menu file-roller It should bring in most of the deps. |

Honestly, sometimes it's just best to give the command so people can copy and paste it into the console and it's often much faster than the UI.
