I like suse.....I liked ubuntu as well when I tried it...but I'm putting a lot of effort in getting Suse customized, so I will stick with this.

I'm going to reinstall OpenSUSE on my desktop, give it another whirl. My old XPS lappy wasn't too fond of it but doesn't have much in the way of spare resources.

Right now Ubuntu is my primary (only ) OS, but I'll give SUSE a fair shot this time. It does have a bit of a learning curve vs a hand holder like the 'buntu's are.

Right now, I'm working with getting Gnome configured correctly. I got conky working, now I want Gnome working.

Once I got used to Gnome I just can't go back to KDE no matter how pretty it is, chatted with quite a few folks who feel the same way.

If gnome has changed, then I might have to consider using them as my main desktop environment again...

Unless a particular distro modifies it then the intial DE still looks the same, but like you saw in my desktop ss it can be configured just like any linux DE.

The looks were secondary though tbh - I've never been able to use KDE without something crashing within the first 2 weeks of use. Sure enough, within 2 days of installing SUSE a while back apps were crashing. Ugh. Gnome has been 100% stable for me.

The only time KDE crashed on me (back in the day) was when I used to use the develepment desktop. I used to hate gnome, because it was not enough eyecandy for me. It looks to me that gnome and kde has finally caught up with the eyecandy environment.
