Is compiz worth it?

Yea...I got a nice laptop that could take the load....so do you think that running/configuring compiz is worth it?

Its cool to play around with for a while, and I imagine most of the bugs that bothered me are fixed, but its kinda gimmicky. Last I used it is right after the different teams merged.

IMO you can have a nice looking desktop without it.

I already do have a great looking desktop. I was just wondering is compiz' eye candy is worth the hassle.

DE looks empty without it - Yeah I'd say it's worth it.

What kind of hassles are you having with it? Just curious because my XPS (I believe) has far fewer resources available than your Vostro and I'm having zero issues with it.

If I still messed around with Linux, I couldn't live without Compiz.

Depends on the laptop. It's not worth it for the battery drain.

I'm not having any (yet)....I just don't want to install it and it becomes a hassle later on.

It will affect gaming performance . . . but you probably won't be gaming on Linux anyways. Horrible performance right out of the box!

It uses hardly any resources, plus it's productivity features are worth looking into if you're a power user type.

It hasn't for me, either on Ubuntu or Fedora 13 which I also have running now. You'll just want to make sure compiz-settings and Emerald theme manager are installed along with compiz, then set emerald as the default theme manager.

You like bling, you'll like it.
