Resolution/Driver help

CentOS 5.5

Just got new "Gigabyte" motherboard installed and the best I can get is 800 x 600 resolution which I cannot handle. Frye's told me I need to update the driver - I told them I was going to use the computer for Linux so hopefully they considered that when they suggested that motherboard. The video card is part of the motherboard and not a separate card like I am used to.

According to Gigabyte website I have to refer to the chipset manufacturer for a driver. It says I have a

NVIDIA® GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a chipset

My computer says my video card is nVidia Unknown device 03D6

I downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.44.run

But maybe I need NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9629-pkg1.run instead

Should I run one of them? If so which and what directory does it go in? I thought the kernel already had needed drivers in it.

I have 1024 x 768 on an old old Celeron with the same distro as this one and using the same monitor and I am sure it came with a bargain basement video card.

Am I stuck with this nasty resolution?

Addon problem that I guess has to do with this video card. Now I keep getting

Gigabyte M68M-S2P S-Series. Their website has it as GA-M68M-S2P

I did find the video card in my computer hardware as:
nVidia C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a}

under configuration (please select your model) is set as a:
vesa - Generic Vesa-compliant video card

There is one under (please select your model) that is not selected for:
nv - nVidia Riva 1258, RIVA, TNT, GeForce, NForce, and QUADRO cards

Should I choose that one instead of the one the computer chose for me (vesa)

At least that error message I kept getting went away after completing all the distro's updates

according to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us you can use these driver versions: 173.14.27 (recommended) / 256.44 / 195.36.31, so it's like every series supports your card
test the other versions that you did not test yet

you can run it from anywhere as root
it will unpack in a temp folder and do it's magic

about the other stuff, you should ignore vesa/nv/noveau prompts, actually it's better to just select nv, run the downloaded driver and at the last prompt ( presuming that the install part worked out ok ) will ask you if you want to set up your xorg.conf ( or something ) and you will choose yes so that in the xorg.conf nv will be replaced with nvidia
then reboot to be sure and it should just work
