id software released the source code. Any tricks, now, in getting the
game to work should be obsolete.

So the problem as described was afflicting me too. However, post #12 by mickski56 worked like a charm.

I use ubuntu 10.04 (x86_64) so I did have to get the 32-build package with this:

sudo apt-get install libc6-dev-i386

But other than that, no problemo. Thanks!

this worked beautifully for me, after fixing the lack of g++-multilib libraries (installed from repo) which caused linking to fail. than you a lot, you're the one dude
