camera tethering is software issue, not driver scanner having dpi limited to 200, was with generic driver, since normal driver wasn't available then (not sure about now) and the canopus (green valley) hd capture card, no driver, no generic, nothing worked. for linux to "take over" a lot more work is required, progress is slow

Who said anything about taking over? There is plenty of room for Linux and Windows to coexist in the same market.
Windows doesn't need to fail for Linux grow. nekro, go write an email to "canopus (green valley)" or whatever the company is and see if they would like drivers writing for their device and maintained in Linux. If they say no, you know who to blame. |

I've taken a break from Video Games altogether for a month, so now that the gaming aspect is out of the way, I'm using Linux again just for the heck of it. I installed Linux Mint 9 and did some customization to Gnome, things are looking good. I did install MS Office 2007 via WINE just because I can't stand OpenOffice.

It works flawlessly, even with Compiz on.
Yes, yes it does. Funny story though. I noticed that while using my laptop actually in my lap and not on a desk, the laptop got quite hot. I did a little researching and some work with lmsensors. Turns out that Linux doesn't want to detect any of my sensors. Great. I did read about checking some BIOS settings and sure enough, I had a settings disabled called "Disable Fan on AC Power" or something like that. Why would you turn the fans off anyways? So thanks HP for burning my legs. It still gets a little warm but nowhere as hot as it was getting. |
