Default Fedora Core 1 ... XFree Log File

Hi guys!

I have tried almost every solution there is, except reistall the driver. I am gripping the last straw and post my XFree log file / I have attached it to this post.

If there's someone who could make something out of this, I'm more than happy.

Having no clue what the problem is on your end, all I can say is:
The logfile looks fine, the module loads, refresh rates are chosen, no errors are generated...

So, what's the problem? (might need to post your XF86Config also, but the way the log looks I imagine your config is fine)

Awesome, but I still don't know what it is you're trying to fix or wondering about. Perhaps you didn't understand, but I'm looking for an explanation of what you think is wrong, and how you'd like it to be different.

Which 'last straw' is this?

You have an FX5200 apparently, and getting ~2000fps from glxgears for a 5200 seems quite good. Others have posted far shabbier results with this card, ~900 or not working at all.

I am probably a MAJOR NOOB when it comes to this topics but it was my impression that these lines:

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on
direct rendering: No

... indicated that there's something wrong.

Also, I don't feel that Gnome 2.4 in Core 1 is that responsive to me ... but hey, I'm new to Gnome so I'm not the one having views/opinions on that topic (I think it takes a long time before the icons are displayed after a reboot/start).....

THANKS for all your input. It turned out that I'm a happy camper after all ))

Well, yes the DRI missing warning could mean that the Mesa libs are actually being loaded prior to the nVidia libs, unless you've removed them manually before installing the driver.

I simply remove them, and then install, so that can't happen. I'm not sure you'd get glxgears to work even that well if this was a problem for you, but no harm in removing the offending Mesa libs.

rpm -e --nodeps XFree86-Mesa-libGL

then reinstall the driver, because removing this rpm might effect some things under the hood (lib symlinking).

But until you try to run a higher powered GL app, like a game engine you might not care. Fixing this will not actually improve the response of the 2D environment in Gnome in any way I'm aware of.

Well I have been told the same command by another guy, and when I run it the output looks like this;

]# rpm -e --nodeps XFree86-Mesa-libGL
error: package XFree86-Mesa-libGL is not installed

Would it be safest to un-install the drivers and re-install them ???
... and if the answer is yes, how doI un-install them?

If you don't have Mesa installed then it isn't a problem. I doubt you need to do anything more, it appears to be working fine. You can run the installer again to reinstall, no need to remove them first, (but if you want to add a --uninstall to the end of your command to run the installer).

Unless you have problems with getting something to work, I'd leave it like it is.
