Hello,
I've got a problem with starting and stopping of OpenGL applications (e.g. glxgears, mplayer with OpenGL). Sometimes (not always, but very often) my X-Server freezes for several seconds (mouse cannot be moved, Gifs stop animation). After a few seconds, everything works fine, until I stop the application or start a new one. I'm using the newest driver 256.53, but this problem also existed in 256.44 and earlier versions. My graphics card is a GeForce GTX 260 (MSI N260GTX T2D896, 896MB) on a Desktop machine. Performance Mode is Desktop and Performance level is 2 (the only performance level). Performance Mode "Prefer Maximum Performance" doesn't seem to be saved in nvidia-settings. I'm also using TwinView, one Desktop 1920x1080 and one 1440x900. This problem appears on all Desktop Environments like KDE4 (3D Effects enabled and disabled), Gnome and LXDE on my OpenSUSE 11.3 machine. Mplayer with VDPAU works without any problems. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this problem? Last edited by Tantalus; 09-08-10 at 06:57 AM. |

Ok. This is an openSUSE 11.3 specific issue. The default kernel (version 2.6.34) caused all problems and I was able to fix my problems by upgrading to 2.6.36 [1]. Sorry for the trouble and that I thought that the nvidia-driver is the root of all problems.
