PC Games are not played in HD on Monitors, it's just widescreen, right? - Page 4

Well the HD ready specification called for 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. Nothing else was accepted. I also didn't see 1050 monitors and other non hd ready monitors being able to call themselves as HD displays. I think there is a consortium specification on it although I can't seem to quickly dig it up atm.

as far as HD ready/Full HD jargon is just something that consumer masses somewhat understand.

The aspect ratios are different, too. 1280x720 (720p) and 1920x1080 (1080p) are 16:9 ratios, whereas typical monitors are 16:10 ratios (e.g. 1920x1200, 1680x1050).

Typical monitors were 16:10, pretty sure 16:9 has taken the main market share by now. I'm not a fan of small 16:9 monitors, but larger ones I can work with.

Yea I have seen many more 16:9 monitors emerging over the past few years. Before that 16:10 dominated. At least that's true at 1080p. Many monitors today are 1920x1080, not 1920x1200. But many the 1680 monitors are still 16:10.

I'm still trying to figure that one out. We all know that 1080p has become the defacto HD resolution, so computer monitors are standardizing towards that. However, why is it that monitors at 1680x1050 (16:10) are still being made if 16:9 is the aspect ratio we're going for? It doesn't make sense.

Honestly, I want to see some good 1920x1200 monitors hit the market again. I've got 2 of them sitting in front of me, and it makes me sad that once one of them dies (which one of them is already on the way out...) that I will have to either settle for a 1920x1080 unit or pay out the ass for something higher resolution.
