Default vdpau slowness with 260.19.06

I admit I don't use vdpau daily so it was various version that I didn't use it but two days ago I got a new tv and I found out I can't decode properly 1080p x264 videos anymore.
The same videos which I could playback perfectly (even downscaled to 720p) with some previous drivers now just go in slow motion or skips continually both on my new monitor and on the old one either with only one on or both on. I've also tried rebooting and trying kernel 2.6.35.5 and 2.6.35.7 both with 260.19.06 with no results. I just got this output:
Code:
mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau ./hd_other_hdclub_the_butterfly.m2ts

           ************************************************

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
  - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
  - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
  - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
  - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
    e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
- Broken file
  - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
  - Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
  - Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html for tuning/speedup tips.
If none of this helps you, read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.

forcing even powermizer to performance didn't change anything and i've tried more than one video (this one can be grabbed from http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/hi...n-trailers.php

actually I get better results with software decoding than with vdpau.
Could anyone help on this? or I've to think it's a driver problem as before i could watch those videos while now I can't anymore (using an 8600M GT 512MB) I'm using ubuntu shipped mplayer with custom built kernel and latest nvidia drivers self installed too (no packages) and I've disabled any fancy "effects"

I have a 8600m gt too, on a DELL XPS M1530 and since the 260.19.06 I have to deal with some slowness with x264 video in 1080p.
I use Archlinux and x.org 1.9.0.

You could test it with VDPAU testing tool but it means to download VDPAU header files from GIT, sources of VDPAU Testing tool, compiling it by hand, no installation can be done but it needs to be run from source directory.

If that would work properly then it could menas an MPlayer problem - it is old 2009 spring MPlayer compilation which could have problem with newest VDPAU implementation.

that looks extremely bad too i had even x.org taking 100% of cpu at times:

considering in the past i could watch the video which i've been having trouble with it for sure means my card can handle it yet those values say otherwise 16fps doesn't allow to watch anything

Are you building nVidia kernel module under different kernel that it will run thereafter?

Your Xorg.log is baffling me as it have two different kernel version mentioned inside.

2nd thought, it maybe something in your custom kernel that not works with this beta driver or it could be something in general in 2.6.35 kernel series that not work with 260 drivers yet.

Try under standard Ubuntu kernel.

well the full install was done around 2.6.35 but some revisions before the one i'm running now so when i finish building the kernel I run eg ./NVIDIA... -K --kernel-name=2.6.35.7-custom and that builds the module then i reboot when i've time.
The kernel options are inherited from the current ubuntu version (which is 10.04) and this way always worked well in the past (and 3d works fine too). will try as soon as possible on the ubuntu kernel... i need to build a module for it too.

1080p is not playable anymore in H264. I have to kill X for everything to work again.

I am on Kubuntu 10.04. Is there a way to know if some other applications are using vdpau ?

Note : both tests are done without compositing of course

raphoun, Guilo19,

Could you please attach nvidia bug report files please; see the forum sticky posts for instructions.

Thanks.

weltall, raphoun,

Guilo19 reported that performance was OK after rebooting, but became slow after perhaps a few hours. Do you see the same, or is performance bad immediately after a reboot?

Thanks.

for me it's always bad regardless of what I do (the test above with the ubuntu official kernel was done just after reboot). I could make a bug report with that kernel too if it's of any use.
