can I put my hand up for 96.43.* update for xorg 1.9 (ubuntu 10.10) to please. I suspect that there could be a lot of unhappy nvidia owners out there

Dear AaronP
I would appreciate if nVidia could add latest Xorg (v1.7 or 1.9) support for the 71.86.* linux drivers (Riva TNT2 card and ubuntu here).
(The latest released 71.86.14 driver version gives the error message "AllocateScreenPrivateIndex...")
Does nVidia plan to release such drivers in the future?
Thank you very much.

We currently do not have plans to do that.

Bumping a month later for nvidia-96xx + xorg 1.9 support because honestly, x86-video-vesa just doesn't cut it.

Code:
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: miEmptyData
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (loader failed, 7)
(EE) No drivers available.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
    at http://wiki.x.org
 for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

giving up
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No Such process (errno 3): Server error.
Code:
[dspider@arch ~] spci | grep VGA
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 MX 440] (rev a3)

it's just my opinion. Thank You
It actually sounds like a good idea. What, is Nvidia worried about the competition stealing their improvements or something ? We're talking about several year old technology here. Also, people will start recommending them even more because of their open nature and love for Linux. Think about it.
