Default Re: Q9550 vs i7 big enough difference?

The only real worth while upgrade would have been if you were going from a dual to a quad core setup. I went from a Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz w/ 680i SLI motherboard to Phenom II X4 965BE w/ Gigabyte 780GX motherboard, and while the benchmarks didn't say it was much faster, the gaming experience was leaps and bounds better, especially in games that make use of more than 2 cores.

However, since you're going from a high-end Core 2 Quad to an i7, you will not notice a difference in gaming. Benchmarks will indeed tell you the i7 is faster, but since a highend core 2 quad can rip through any game on the market, what's the point in upgrading?

Where the i7 really helps out is when you run SLI ,if you don't plan on running SLI then the Q9550 is plenty good ,but I would overclock it.Most all of them will do 3.8gigs if not more.
