This is my processor as listed when I run: cat /proc/cpuinfo
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ I guess I capable of running 64bit OS. I guess I will do a bit of research and figure this one out. I know there has been some discussion about 32 vs 64 bit OS etc.... Does it matter than my primary partition is 32 bit Vista? |

So, I added the vmalloc=192M to my grub....
It rebooted without issue and I was able to load the recommended driver from nvidia per the ubuntu driver utility. However, now I don't have two monitors. I wonder should I then install the 192.19.12 driver from nvidia site? Or, do I somehow configure the driver I have? Thanks for all the help, thus far |

I think I need more configuring to get this to work. I feel like I need to get rid of nouveau and nv, if they are still running etc.....
Here is my bug report for everyone to review. Thanks |

You know I feel stupid, after I posted this I stumbled upon the nvidia setting area and now I have two monitors set up. Thanks.
I think I may be done with this.... will give it a few days to see what happens. Did my bug report look good? I still can't use the visual effects with the current driver. |

Yes, your bug report says Composite is enabled, so desktop effects should work. Did they work when you were only using one screen? Composite won't work with Separate X screens plus Xinerama due to a limitation in the X server. It will work if you are using TwinView though.

So, I had to go to windows to use quicken (won't get into that) and when I rebooted back to ubuntu I had one screen. I then thought I would go to the system----preferences---monitors to see if I could see what was going on. I then got a pop up saying this was not an option or something with the current driver, would I like to use the correct one. (I don't remember the correct verbage) and I say Yes. Then it does some flickering and color changes and then I get two monitors. I still can't use the visual effects etc... but I have two screens in twinview.
After a reboot it's back to the one screen etc... back to the same. I did run /proc/driver/nvidia/version and it stated I have 260.19.06 installed. I'm thinking the installation didn't work. Since with the restricted driver utility I should have installed the .12 version. I wonder if I need to uninstall the nouveau and nv drivers and do a manual install of the latest nvidia driver? How do I tell with the command line what driver is really being used. |

Have you used nvidia-settings with root privileges (like gsku nvidia-settings from a command terminal) and after you set up your monitor configuration > Save to X configuration File?

gsku nvidia-settings
I have not done this, yet. I can try this. I did this all via the gui. I'm just a bit fuzzy on how to do the second portion. "Save to X configuration File" I will have to look that one up. When I get home tonight, I am going to reboot and see what happens. I need to determine if I need to unistall nouveau or nv, any ideas? I have heard that these can still conflict with nvidia drivers and alter performance. |
