Default Xbox external HDD question

Can you hook a external HDD to your xbox and download all the market place games and demos to it? I assume you can but wanted to make sure before I got a external drive. I bought my son the slim 4g version with out a hdd.

AFAIK, there is a 16GB limit to external storage on the Slims. I don't know if there has been an update since it came out though.

I don't think you can. You can use a USB drive, but it must be 16GB or smaller.

By now, I'm used to it.

here's a thought, in regards to your op-

why not get a large external drive and have a whole lot of 16GB partitions? I'm not too familiar with the XBox and what you can or cannot do. But would this work? If not, buy a lot of 16GB flash drives?

I don't think that will work with multiple partitions.

Also, one flash drive is more than enough to be honest. I used to have a 20GB 360 (about 18.6GB after formatting) and I was able to save all my games and install one game to the hard drive.

You can hook whatever you want to it via usb, but as mentioned only the first 16gig will be used per device. Plus you can use up to two 16gb usb drives at the same time.

It might be important to consider that as long as you don't store movies/music or copy discs to the drives 16gb is quite a lot of space, especially as the xbl games are capped at something like 500meg, and download content isn't excessively large. I had no issue with my original 20gb xbox, then again I store all the videos and music on my windows home server and stream it from there.
