285 upgrade to 580: benchmarking

285 to 580 will be a popular upgrade I think, but I can never find that type of comparison before upgrading so here's one for you gentle reader

Stunning performance compared to my 285 and just as quiet

Here's the Pripyat benchmark with both cards maxed out

I made the same jump. I wish I had benchmarked Crysis Warhead on my 285s before I swapped them out last night. With everything set to "Enthusiast" and no AA, I remember my 285s struggling to stay in the teens for FPS. With the 580s an 8x AA, the lowest I've seen so far is 30 FPS, usually they stayed above 40 FPS, often hitting 50 FPS. Now granted, that's only with about half hour of play under the belt, but still... 50 FPS in Crysis with everything cranked! And with only two cards and air cooling!

Damn I sound like a fanboy...

I've got Crysis Warhead somewhere but after bad chugging on the carrier last time I put it down. Ooh maybe it's had a few tweaks

were you on 285 SLI? I ask becaue I am on a 295...and want to upgrade Christmas /January....

Yes, and I've been very please with the performance I've seen over the past couple of days. Definitely a good upgrade, especially if you're on a 30" monitor.

Well, to be fair, there is no game still that can match it for graphics. It's a great game to come back to with new hardware.

The engine in Crysis is no doubt stellar.

Not stellar I think perhaps Roliath, it looks a little primitive on revisiting it. Marvellous graphics for the time but strangely- we've moved on

My most impressive (and deceptively simple) demo so far is the AMD Ladybird, realistic and gorgeous. That's how I want my worlds-in-there to look, feel. Eventually
