Default The GTX580 overclocking thread.

Anyone able to get their GTX580 to 900mhz+?

I'm having serious issues with it, even at 1.138v, I can't get 900mhz or higher stable. Maybe I just got a bad one.

Post your overclocking experiences.

I'm workin' on ~ 928/4666. I think the 100% sweet spot is within 25 mhz of the core or the memory speed I'm at.

I wish I could get that high, I can't even get 875mhz stable.

Luckily thanks to EVGA's lovely warranty, I can probably change that in the future.

Ditto, the performance gain is never worth it in my experience but to each their own

Some cards like the 460 and 470 have a huge amount of headroom so I think it depends on the card.

This. Both the 5850 and 6850 can come within reach of their bigger brothers simply from oc'ing.

Default clocks on all the mid-high range cards seem to be low. The CCC limits you to 775-1100 with a 5850, which is ridiculously low and everyone knows it. Mine will do 850/1200 easy on stock volts and @ 5870 voltage will do 975/1250

Stock speeds are for wussies.

I overclock my dishwasher.

BTW, stable at 1.138V, 929/4670.

I should downclock to 480 speeds and see how beneficial this speed is over that of a stock 480.

I really didn't think you would be the type to say something like that.

I have so many examples that contradict that statement, but I'll just use a few, using personal experience.

  • Overclocking a Geforce 6600 Non Ultra allows it to play Doom 3 @ 1280x1024 instead of 1024x768.
  • Overclocking a Geforce 7800 GS allows the user to enjoy 2xAA in UT3 as opposed to 0x.
  • Overclocking an HD 3850 gets rid of the too-low minimum framerates when things get really crazy in Lost Planet in DX 10.1 mode with fur on.
  • Overclocking an HD 4850 allows you to either turn 2xAA on or turn shadows up to medium @ 1280x720 in Bad Company 2 with all other options at their highest, @ 4x AF, DX10 mode, HBAO on.
  • Overclocking an HD 4870 allows for 4xAA, 16xAF in Bad Company 2.
  • Overclocking an HD 5830 allows you to move up a whole IQ setting in Metro 2033.
  • Overclocking the GTX 580 will most certainly allow me to use DOF with GPU physX on along with the Ultra High IQ setting in Metro 2033.

Overclocking is a lot of fun, it's a fun and sometimes competitive exercise, and yes, it definitely does make games playable when at stock settings they might not be.

is there really a need to post how much you hate overclocking in a thread for overclocking a gpu? Who cares, post your overclocked results or dont post at all.

The three GTX 580s I have overclock to 860/2080 with 1.100V. SLI seems to limit the overall overclock and I like to have them all running at the same speed. I run them at a safe 820/2060 1.05V for 24/7 use. The cards are much much quieter than the three GTX 480s I had before.
