What can I expect?

I just picked up Crysis, never played it before.

What can I expect with my rig? i7 950, 6GB XMS 3 @ 1600mhz, 6870 Crossfire.

What res should I pump it to at the start to avoid disappoinment?

New experience to me. I've been playing sub 720p stuff for years now. lol

You should be able to get a smooth experience in Crysis at 1920 with that rig.

Can I push 4x AA and 16 AF?

Not sure, probably AA x4 should be playable and AF doesn't work on very high because of the POM as I remember.

DX9 will be smoother but DX10 64bit mode will look better, with a much higher performance hit. I get between 20-30fps+ at 1440x900. It's worth noting that Crysis is one of those games that doesn't need a high frame-rate to play well, since anything over 25fps is good.

That's good to know. I wouldn't mind if every game ran at 59fps before the VSync hit tbh. lol

ffs.... can't run the game at 1920x1080. Get the "Out of range" message which is nonsense. Play all of my games at that res, infact it's my displays native res.

Any ideas? This is driving me crackers.

EDIT: Edited the config file, got my 1920x1080 now but it runs the game at 50hz. Hmmm Bloody 6870 Crossfire.

I'm assuming you're using the latest drivers and the most recent patches for the games?

You sure are having a crap-ton of problems, I usually only hear great things about 6800 crossfire.

out of range means your refresh rate is out of the monitors range. I would uninstall your monitor drivers if you have any.

Wow... I haven't used monitor drivers since... an old CRT Samsung I had probably 6+ years ago.

See, that's my first thought but then all other games run fine at 60hz at this res.

Must be something wrong with the game. It runs itself at 50hz, and I can live with 50fps. It never dips below that, so i'm happy.

Yeah, there's got to be something going on to cause it to go beyond 60hz.

At least it's playing well though.

Got use to the fact I have to use Radeon Pro to pretty much resolve alot of Crossfire issues now, it's not ideal, but it's workable.

I couldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't willing to experiment and just wants to throw games on, you really need to dabble.

Hopefully when the 10.12s come out there will be some real 68xx series support.
