Thanks. I was asking since many Vaio Laptops were able to get the EDID starting from 256.44 drivers (before breaking in 260.19), while my VPCS11 was not (do not take this as a rant, I know it takes efforts and time ). Hence I wanted to know if any progress on Vaio EDID recognition was made.

Can I also ask if there is at least any indication on when the next release will happen? I am stuck with 256.53 which does not build on kernel 2.6.36 (that in turn is trying to get his way into Arch [core] repository), so I might be in some config trouble in the future.

Many thanks again,
Alessandro

256.53 for kernel 2.6.36 you can build with this patch:
Code:
--- kernel/nv.c 2010-10-27 04:46:28.210657572 +0000
+++ kernel/nv.c 2010-10-27 04:47:06.656657571 +0000
@@ -423,7 +423,6 @@ static struct pci_driver nv_pci_driver =
 static struct file_operations nv_fops = {
     .owner     = THIS_MODULE,
     .poll      = nv_kern_poll,
-    .ioctl     = nv_kern_ioctl,
 #if defined(HAVE_UNLOCKED_IOCTL)
     .unlocked_ioctl = nv_kern_unlocked_ioctl,
 #endif
Btw if you don't want kernel 2.6.36 in Arch, you can add kernel26 to IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf

Thanks for the patch, this will save my life (actually I am waiting for 2.6.36 since it fixes my internal mic). Besides, I know about IgnorePkg, I just do not want to leave the system behind for too long (if you use arch you know that too long almost equals to few seconds )

Hello, at my university we need 260.* driver for CUDA 3.2 (and we need some CUDA 3.2 features to go on). Our work is completely freezed until this bug has been corrected.

I was wondering, any clue on when next version will be released?

Thank you.

I am facing same problem as the OP. My laptop is a Sony Vaio CW series machine with GT310M. Will the next release fix this for my laptop too? In other words, is the fix applicable for all Sony Vaios, or only the OP's sytem? Thanks!

WOW!!

Im SO HAPPY I found this thread!! I am having the same issue with My computer. I thought it was just me

Like alexcriss I have found that the internal mic issue was solved with the 2.3.36 kernel. Also I need access to cuda 3.2 for a project.

My machine:
Sony Vaio VPCF1190x
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 330M] (rev a2)

I hope this may be resolved in the next revision

@alexcriss

How should I apply the patch? Tried "patch -p0 < /path/to/file" when I was in /usr/src and it didn't work.

@zander

How long does it take before the new version comes?

First, you must extract nvidia code and then manually build module like this:
Code:
build() {
  cd $srcdir
  sh ${_pkg}.run --extract-only
  cd ${_pkg}/kernel
  patch -Np1 -i $srcdir/${_patch}
  make SYSSRC=/lib/modules/${_kernver}/build module
}
Next way to install nvidia module is depending on your distribution

The 260.19.26 beta seems to have solved the kernel oops. However, on my Vaio VPCS11C5E I *still* need to give the CustomEDID for recognizing the LCD pane. What kind of curse can I send to Sony? I'll try to provide logs as soon as I can, hoping that this time the logverbose helps me.

Cheers,
Alessandro

The 260.19.26 version is working here. With automatic edid detection.
My card is 330m (Sony Vaio CW27fx)
Kernel 2.6.36.1
Xorg-server 1.9.2

I am pretty sure that Vaio CW and F series were working with 256 drivers *without* the CustomEDID, while the Vaio S wasn't. The new driver fixes the kernel oops for me, but doesn't fix the EDID recognition, which was already fixed for other Vaio models.
