Fellas,
I have some external speakers for my Philips LCD 1080p HDTV. The connector from my speakers is a 35mm jack, and the only input my TV will accept is from a digital optical audio cable. Any way I can get my TV and my speakers to play nice? |

Sounds like no, unless you can get an optical to 3.5mm converter.
So your TV only has an optical out for audio? No digital RCA jack or plain-jane RCA (yellow) audio out? You don't have a receiver? Is the audio going to be coming from a cable box and a DVD player? Any other components? PC?

You should be able to get audio from your scart output if you have one. A scart to 3.5mm female headphone jack adapter, if available, should do the job. If not there are always companies around that will make one for you.

If you are looking for something not ridiculously expensive, but one that can handle most anything, Onkyo makes a good setup and has many to choose from.
First things first, are you planning to run 3D? Coz you may have to account for compatibility in that case. Theater in a box setups typically suck donkey balls btw. Alternatively, you can just get an adapter like Revs and others said, till you decide what you want to do later on. No need to splurge right now ![]() |

I just replaced my HT-R640 Onkyo receiver with a new Yamaha one. If my daughters boyfriend doesn't buy it for $100 would you be interested? It works great and has 2 HDMI inputs. The only thing is it does not have a decoder for the new blu ray audio codecs. If you have a blu ray player that will decode it then no problem. If your blu ray player doesn't decode the new codecs then you can still listen to blu ray audio, it will just be in regular DD or DTS.
A receiver would be your best option but if you don't want to get one then here is another option for you http://www.amazon.com/3-5MM-TOSLINK-.../dp/B00006LVF3 Oh and Rage, the RCA audio is red and white, the yellow is composite video. ![]() |
