Yes, but in reality it will be a 720p screen on the PSP but only running at 480p and being upscaled. (if that) Much like all of the consoles now do not actually render anything at 1080p.

I'm guessing the resolution will be 800x480, which I would think is good enough for a portable, but they should require all games have 2xAA minimum.

The reason Nintendo owns portable gaming is that their console is the only one lasting 6h+ while gaming fully.
Sony and Sega in its time did the same mistake: higher perfs, prettier graphics, but shorter battery life. What is the point of a portable if you need to be hooked to a power plug?
Haha yea my game gear used to eat AA batteries. It took six of them and they only lasted about 3-4 hours. The rechargeable battery pack allowed you to play an hour or two more but it was a clunky thing.

Game Gear was vastly superior, though. Well worth it.

I have a game gear with its case and all the accessories. Even that ridiculous magnifying screen. The battery packs don't work anymore though.. :-(

I can see it, the resolution being 1/4th of what the ps3 supports, the gpu of the ps3 being five years old, and the graphics quality of the first ps3 titles being quite a bit less polished than current titles.

Early reports claimed 3DS would look like 360 and PS3 games. Everything I have seen looks about like PSP quality.

Well, it is well known that 3DS has quite underpowered hardware, only reason early reports stated about 360 and ps3 quality is that the hardware seems to support sm2 or 3.

The PSP 2's GPU has a much better feature set than the RSX (VQ texture compression, shader-based depth testing). Unless the PSP2's GPU cores are clocked super-slow, then it will be faster than the RSX too.

However, the Cell in the PS3 makes up for the weak RSX.
