Default nvidia-drivers-260.19.26 cause hald to hang on boot!

This is a strange problem. I upgraded to nvidia-drivers-260.19.26 yesterday (on 64-bit Gentoo) and when I booted this morning everything seemed fine but then, hours later, I noticed that both lircd and hald had failed to start. I switched back to the first virtual console to see if there was an indication of an error and right after I switched (hours after I booted) the screen started to scroll and the boot procedure finished, starting hald and all the services that follow it.

I first tried downgrading xorg-server but the problem persisted, which means it is reproducible and not a one-time fluke.

After I downgraded to nvidia-drivers-256.53, the problem went away and my system would boot normally again. I believe a work-around for this problem would be to ensure that the xdm service starts after hald (or maybe as the very last service). I don't know if this is a bug in the newer nvidia-drivers or if they uncovered a bug somewhere else. Whatever it is, it is mighty strange.
