Hi,
I have an MSI 6367 mobo running RH9. I think that I have installed the correct drivers, but the onboard nic is not recognised. Is this an IRQ conflict? I followed advice given in an archive of nvnews. I hope the following helps: [root@localhost root]# ifconfig eth0 eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found [root@localhost root]# modprobe nvnet /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: unresolved symbol skb_over_panic_R712a47ec /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: unresolved symbol softnet_data_Rf8a98481 /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: unresolved symbol netif_rx_Radae146a /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: unresolved symbol eth_type_trans_Rbe3f1075 /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: unresolved symbol __kfree_skb_Rdaba6be9 /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: unresolved symbol alloc_skb_Re1ba4853 /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: unresolved symbol __netdev_watchdog_up_R9fabb2e3 /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license and it has unresolved symbols. The module may be trying to access GPLONLY symbols but the problem is more likely to be a coding or user error. Contact the module supplier for assistance, only they can help you. /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: insmod nvnet failed [root@localhost root]# lsmod Module Size Used by Tainted: P ppp_deflate 4504 0 (autoclean) zlib_deflate 21368 0 (autoclean) [ppp_deflate] ppp_async 9440 0 (autoclean) i810_audio 27720 0 (autoclean) ac97_codec 13640 0 (autoclean) [i810_audio] soundcore 6404 2 (autoclean) [i810_audio] ppp_generic 24444 0 (autoclean) [ppp_deflate ppp_async] slhc 6740 0 (autoclean) [ppp_generic] ide-cd 35708 0 (autoclean) cdrom 33728 0 (autoclean) [ide-cd] nvidia 1766848 11 (autoclean) parport_pc 19076 1 (autoclean) lp 8996 0 (autoclean) parport 37056 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp] autofs 13268 0 (autoclean) (unused) ipt_REJECT 3928 6 (autoclean) iptable_filter 2412 1 (autoclean) ip_tables 15096 2 [ipt_REJECT iptable_filter] keybdev 2944 0 (unused) mousedev 5492 1 hid 22148 0 (unused) input 5856 0 [keybdev mousedev hid] usb-ohci 21480 0 (unused) usbcore 78784 1 [hid usb-ohci] ext3 70784 2 jbd 51892 2 [ext3] [root@localhost root]# I hope you can help. It means that the nvnet driver has been miscompiled and that the module loading code cannot find the symbols that nvnet supposedly needs. You need to recompile nvnet and try again.

Thanks for your reply,
NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.rh90up_2.4.20_6.athlon.rpm This file is in my home directory and when I click on it I am told that it is already installed. However when i try to uninstall it as perr instructions for removal of binary rpm (i presume that it is a binary rpm?) files in the nvidia documentation I am told that it is not installed. I am new to linux but have been interested in it for some time. My problem is that i seem to get lumbered with the wrong type of hardware all the time. Close to tears (again!) Jinty |

Hi again,
Thanks for your reply, but i think i have made a mistake Does the following mean that I haven't got the kernel source? [jinty@localhost jinty]$ rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-pcmcia-cs-3.1.31-13 kernel-2.4.20-6 Sorry Janice |

That's right. You can either fetch a 2.4.20-6 Red Hat kernel source tree or download a stock 2.4.22 kernel from www.kernel.org. After compiling it and restarting the system you can then uninstall the binary NVIDIA RPM, download the NVIDIA code and try to compile nvnet, using the 2.4.22 source code.
