Well today my favorite PC store had a boxing day sale. Everything in store was 15% off. Couldn't resist. I got an EVGA GTX580 (only had the one in stock as they where selling like hotcakes) and a new Corsair AX1200 PSU.

GTX-580 + Dell 30" monitor = heaven. Best part is that it only cost me $5.

I don't mind my low resolution fake monitor.
Every game runs perfectly except Crysis. First of all, on my new 1080p HDTV Crysis' vsync setting at 1080p is 24fps, which isn't ideal. Second, Crysis stutters A LOT at 1080p with very high settings even with no AA. It looks like the problem is that every once in a while the frame rate dips into the low teens for a fraction of a second and then comes back up to the refresh rate. It's really annoying. I can't tell if something is wrong on my end or if that's just Crysis being Crysis. Is 1080p with all settings very high too much for a single GTX 580? |

Crysis may still lag in a few areas with everything maxed out, honestly.
Try scaling some things back just a bit to see if it smooths out. |

Yeah I can wait to plug the PSU in today. I have been waiting for the person who bought the 1000watt. He wanted to see it running, so it was easier to just leave it in the PC.

My first post on these forums, got a EVGA GTX 580 shortly after launch and am loving it. It only has to push a 1920x1080 25" screen, but I can heap on every setting I can find

Ok, so this is strange. I start the game with v-sync on and it tries to sync at 24fps. As I described previously I get a lot of stuttering. If I then alt-enter a few times my FPS go up significantly, the game becomes very smooth, and from what I can tell vsync is still being applied. Also, when the game is not syncing at 24fps (so after I alt-enter a few times) the game appears lighter. I had to adjust the in-game brightness, contrast, and gamma to account for the difference. Of course, after that adjustment it's easy to tell when the game is syncing at 24fps because it's very very dark. Very strange, though I'm glad I discovered how to make the game playable. In fact, after my alt-enter trick my FPS were high enough that I was able to throw 4x transparency supersampling into the mix in addition to the in-game 4xMSAA. Even then, my FPS are still above 30; in most cases well above 30 with just a few dips into the 30s here and there. Anyway, any ideas on what's going on?
