The Intel Extreme Edition is for people with way too much money burning they pocket or some teen with rich daddy, so why do you cry. j/k

Anyway I made the same mistake and bought the Core i7 965 Extreme and when Intel only couple months later introduced the i7 920 D0 revision which OC better than the i7 965, I said to myself no more extreme for me.

Looks like I did not learn much from the lesson and upgraded to i7-980X Extreme Edition, at least at that time it was the only 6 Core CPU on the market. Little disappointed that only 9 months later the $200 i5-2500K is trading punches with the $1000 i7-980X EE, guess that is what they call the life in the fast lane.

Now I'm waiting for the 6 or 8 Core AMD buldozer, hopefully it is going to be fast enough so I don't need to buy anything extreme again.

I think the Intel Extreme Edition CPU's are one the most overpriced PC part, well not as bad as the Monster Cables rip off.

It is slightly faster for less money. Don't see how that's a bad thing. Only bad thing was I just ordered i7 components yesterday

. Luckily Newegg will give me a full refund as soon as I can RMA them back. What's the ETA until we can buy these CPU's and the motherboards that they need?

I would guess because they don't make much money off the extreme editions any more. With an economy like this, if you had a chance to buy a little better processor that wasn't costing a grand you would.
