Default toshiba 2435-S255 laptop w/slackware 9.1

I've read through others that have been having trouble with the nvidia on toshiba laptops. I am having a bit of trouble too, but mine is different. While everyone seems to get the problem when they begin their x-session. I am getting it when I end my x-session.

After installing the latest driver. Everything starts up just great. I followed the instructions carefully. The gears roll very nicely and my screen resolution is great. However, when I shut down, my screen gets vertical lines and sploches. This is not too much of a problem, however, I can't see the shutdown messages so I don't know if I am getting a proper shutdown.

So you see, my problem occurs upon shutdown, not startup.

Any ideas or suggestions?

i reinstalled my slackware recently so i don't have a xf86conf file that will reflect the changes i made when i previously installed the nvidia drivers. i did not reload the nvidia driver because of the problems that i mentioned. i was hoping to get some advice on this board before installing the driver. however, i followed the installation instructions to the letter, so my xf86conf file will be the same as the instructions. btw, there is a sample conf file that comes with the driver. maybe that might help.

as i mention before, after loading the driver, everything worked perfectly with the exception of shutdown.

take a look at the README file (sec-03) EDITING YOUR XF86CONFIG FILE. there are references to the sample file including its location. if, for some reason you don't have the README file, go here...

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._ia32_1.0-4496

Go to Step 4 and you will find a link to the README file.

Good luck.

ignores what it thinks the hardware is saying is its limits
