Have you been paying attention to the mobil market? It's likely going to take off like a rocket. Folks like you and I, with computers like yours and mine, we're still going to be around with our rigs but it'll be a much smaller "niche" market than it is now.

I'm not sure who whill win though, ARM or x86. That part will be interesting. Honestly, I think it'd going to be x86 with GPGPU (think AMD's Fusion). ARM will be a worthy foe, but will likely go the way of HD-DVD, RAMBUS, and the APU.

They absolutely cannot compete against x86 using x86. Intel owns x86 and even with their best effords nVidia likely wouldn't be able to design an effectively competitive chip to compete with Intel and AMD, without sacrificing elsewhere- they just aren't a big enough company.

Honestly, I think the days of nVidia developing leading end gaming GPUs is coming to an end. Sure, x86 will survive but it's going to shrink, being replaced with much smaller, more portable electronics.

Doubt it, That would leave AMD free reign of everything.

Nah, Intel has the fabs and the money to pretty much do anything they want when they want. Nvidia does not have the same access to chip fabs as Intel does.

Hm, an ARM/NVIDIA-powered 4G-enabled Desktop Replacement notebook PC might prove to be exactly what I need to upgrade to from my large and power-hungry desktop machine...

Really?

Look at the CPU power we have now, on 45 and 32nm. Imagine getting smaller, like 28, 12, etc. I think that x86 could do it. I mean, it's entirely possible.

But then again, we're a ways from those processes and don't even know if silicone based wafers will work on that fine a process.

ARM might win out in mobile, I cannot see it winning in desktop/home based systems though.

I believe Nvidia is correct with their assessments. Mobile is skyrocketing and so are devices like the iPad and other tablets coming out. I know it makes you all mad, but this whole "big" PC and huge GPU stuff is going to be going away, for something else.

The PC is like a SUV. Big, power hungry, takes up a lot of space. The PC boomed in the 90's, just like the SUV. I love SUV's but sales have declined due to gas prices and such. In the 90's, almost everyone had a Ford Explorer, Expedition, Jeep Grand Cherokee, etc. Everyone I know that had them now has cars.

The funny thing about SUV's is that most people drive them daily to work alone! A big waste, if you ask me. Some people feel safe in them, that I can understand. Some drive them and don't even have kids, a boat or trailer or even more than a day or two of snow to justify them. This doesn't mean you shouldn't have a choice to buy them, but think about it.

PC's are going the same route, hate to say it. What we all do here will be even more niche than what it is now.

I find it funny they are pimping the PS3 there. As much as I love it, the PS3 has such an old Nvidia GPU in it, it's like a 7800 GTX.

For me Monitor, keyboard, mouse and tower will be always number one choice of computing. I do not want any smart phone...when i am outside i am about people not about technology.
