Unhappy Option NvAGP "0" Suse 9.0 -> Problems

Hello,
i had problems to run the nvidia driver under Suse 9.0. In this forum i found the only chance to run it without having a black screen in X: Option NvAGP "0".
But i have still problems. Now with Option NvAGP "0" i cannot shut down my computer, change the runlevel, or restart from x :-(( always i do something of this -> black screen :-(
NvAGP "1", "2", or "3" i tried but it dont works... black screen in x.
On nvidia.com i read, that if AGPGART is loaded, or compile into my kernel NvAGP dont works. Could it be that this is the solution? But i am a newbie and i dont know to solve this.
Would be very happy for help!
Thank you
Stolzi

Default rename agpgart.o

If agpgart is complied in your kernel I found the only way to stop it loading is to rename it
try

locate agpgart.o

to find the file and then while its not in use rename it to .old

mv agpgart.o agpgart.old

then you can try the Nvagp

if it is not compiled as a module you will either have to recomplie the kernel with it as a module and follow the steps above or remove from your kernel.

sorry, no garanety this is actually going to help your overall issue, but give it a try.

p.s. what motherboard, cpu etc are you running ?

Default check if agpgart.o is in use

make sure you are root (su) and then in the console type

lsmod

or

lsmod | less

if the screen scrolls to much (or use ctrl+pgUP)
this will list all the modules in use, I do not know how to test if the agpgart is compiled into your kernel, check your distro docs or just recomplie it.

I had to log out of X before I could rename the file (because it was in use by X).

hope that helps
